What is a Private Utility?
Private utilities are not marked by 811. Unlike public utilities, which can be located by contacting Florida's 811, private utilities are service lines owned and maintained by property owners that extend past the public utility company's facilities such as a meter or transformer.

It's crucial for property owners and contractors to understand these differences for proper maintenance and excavation.

Typical examples of private utilities include water line past the city or county meter, sprinkler and irrigation lines, sewer lines, septic tanks, well water lines, pool water lines, drainage, landscape lighting and parking lot lights, propane tanks and gas lines for grills.
